Las Vegas History Series – Luxor Las Vegas

One can imagine that they are going back to ancient Egypt when they enter the Luxor Hotel & Casino. An MGM property, it is named after the city of Luxor. Considering the fact that it has over 4000 hotel rooms, it is one of the most affordable places to stay on the Las Vegas Strip. Through a navigation system that was constructed, one can leave the Luxor and easily visit its sister MGM properties Excalibur or Mandalay Bay.

The on-going entertainment variety at Luxor is undeniable. From nationally known magician Criss Angel to the beautiful ladies of Fantasy to comedian Carrot Top, the resort has a show for everyone. There have been many reports and discussions about whether or not the Luxor is slowly sinking.  So is it really sinking? One must go search the Internet, look at credible sources and come to their own conclusions.

The Luxor Hotel & Casino opened on October 15, 1993. The hotel is 30 stories. In the world of pop culture, the Luxor has been featured in a variety of TV shows including Fear Factor and CSI. The beam of light that comes out of the top of the Luxor is the strongest in the world reportedly. It can be viewed as far as 275 miles away by aircraft.

Focusing on the gambling at the Luxor, the casino floor is over 120,000 square feet. If you are someone who likes collecting $1 chips, the Luxor has a few chips that are colorful and show off Egyptian symbols. You can see one below:

There are two ends of the Las Vegas Strip. You have the North side and you have the South side. The Luxor is on the far South side. When people are visiting Vegas and they land from their plane flight, the Luxor is one of the properties they do end up seeing. Perhaps starting off any trip with a visit to Egypt in Las Vegas is the way to go.
